Technical Tip Tuesday Presented by DocuSketch
How Estimators Can Build a Strong Reputation in Restoration
Your reputation matters. Learn key habits that help estimators earn trust and respect in the restoration industry.
This week’s tip is all about what behaviors and habits help estimators build a strong reputation in the restoration industry. This is a great industry, but it’s unique. It feels big, yet it’s surprisingly small. Your reputation will follow you everywhere, and that’s a good thing if you build it intentionally.
Chris Tilkov started his career in the restoration industry at 17, not knowing what he was walking into. During his time in this industry, he has learned that the way you handle interactions, whether it’s Xact Analysis disputes or claim resolutions, matters more than you think. People remember those conversations.
A quick story: Nelson Higgins and Chris used to be on opposite sides of Xact Analysis arguments. They didn’t always agree (and yes, there were some heated calls), but they handled things professionally. Over time, that mutual respect turned into collaboration. Fast forward to today, they now work for the same company.
That’s the power of reputation.
Every interaction counts. Stay professional, even under immense pressure. Think about the long-term, stay intentional.
Pro Tip: Reputation isn’t built overnight, but every call, email and meeting shapes it. Make sure yours works for you, not against you.
Thank you, Chris Tilkov, Director at DocuSketch and the President and Founder of AiME Estimate Review, for this week’s tip. See you next week!Looking for a reprint of this article?
