Technical Tip Tuesday Presented by DocuSketch

Why Reputation Matters for Estimators in the Restoration Industry

Building trust and strong relationship early in your career can bring long-term success in the restoration industry

By Kayla McGowan
December 23, 2025

This week’s Technical Tip Tuesday, we dive into a topic that every estimator takes seriously: building a strong reputation. We know reputation in this industry is everything.

The restoration industry is unique. It seems awful big, but in reality, it is fairly small. Connections are the foundation of what we do, and reputation is the thing that follows you everywhere. The habits you develop early in your journey shape your career.

Every interaction matters. Whether you are resolving an issue or collaborating. It has an impact. From emails to phone calls and in-person events, the impression you leave lasts a lifetime.

Chris Tilkov shares a fun story about meeting Nelson Higgins when they were on opposite sides of the table; fast forward to today, they’re on the same team at DocuSketch. The power of reputation is huge. Just because someone isn’t on your team at that moment, doesn’t mean they can’t be tomorrow.

It’s no secret that the restoration industry thrives on relationships, and your name will travel farther than you think. Build trust now, and it will pay dividends later.

Stay tuned for next week’s tip!
