If you are interested in pursuing a career in water restoration, this article along with tips in this Ask the Expert video with CEO of “Get Water Jobs” Frankie Fihn will provide you with valuable insights on the skills required, job opportunities available, and tips to help you succeed in this field.

Understanding the Role: Water restoration professionals are responsible for assessing, repairing, and restoring properties affected by water damage. They must possess a wide range of skills, including water extraction, drying techniques, mold remediation, and structural repair.

Essential Skills: To excel in water restoration jobs, it is crucial to develop the following skills:

  • Technical Expertise: Familiarize yourself with industry-standard equipment, such as dehumidifiers, moisture meters, and air movers.
  • Problem-solving: Be able to analyze complex water damage situations and develop effective restoration plans.
  • Communication: Excellent communication skills are essential for dealing with clients, insurance companies, and other professionals involved in the restoration process.
  • Time Management: Water restoration projects often require quick response times, so efficient time management is crucial.

Training and Certifications

Consider obtaining relevant certifications to enhance your employability and credibility in the field. The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) offers certifications such as Water Restoration Technician (WRT) and Applied Structural Drying (ASD), which are highly regarded in the industry.

  • Insurance Companies: Insurance providers often employ water restoration experts to assess and handle claims related to water damage.
  • Government Agencies: Local and federal government agencies may require water restoration professionals for disaster response and recovery efforts.

To increase your chances of landing water restoration jobs, consider the following tips:

  • Join industry associations and attend conferences to network with professionals and stay updated on the latest trends.
