IICRC News: August 2017

IICRC News
August 8, 2017

Storm Season

When the rain stops and flood waters retreat, is your firm ready to handle the influx of calls? Make sure your technicians are up-to-date in their water damage restoration and mold remediation certifications. Visit www.IICRC.org/findacourse to locate an IICRC-certified school or course in your area.

New French Translation

The IICRC has recently released a new French translation of the ANSI/IICRC S520 Standard for Professional Mold Remediation. This translation joins the already translated ANSI/IICRC S500 Standard and Reference Guide for Professional Water Damage Restoration.

To purchase a copy of the new IICRC S520: French 2017 or IICRC S500: French 2016, visit http://webstore.iicrc.org.

New Standard for Trauma and Crime Scene Cleanup

The IICRC recently published a new ANSI-approved ANSI/IICRC S540 Standard for Trauma and Crime Scene Cleanup (1st edition, 2017).

The new S540 Standard defines the criteria and methodology used by the technician for the inspection and cleaning of blood and other potentially infectious material (OPIM) contamination. The Standard describes the procedures to be followed and the precautions to be taken when performing trauma and crime scene cleanup regardless of surface, item or location.

For more information or to purchase a copy of the new ANSI/IICRC S540: 2017, visit http://webstore.iicrc.org. IICRC Standards are also available via the IICRC Standards Subscription website at http://publications.iicrc.org.

Seeking Standards Consensus Body Volunteers

The IICRC is seeking volunteers to serve on a consensus body for the development of the new BSR-IICRC S550 Standard for Professional Water Damage Restoration of Commercial Structures.

The S550 will be a procedural standard for performing water damage restoration in commercial, industrial, institutional and complex residential structures, systems and furniture, fixtures and equipment. The proposed standard includes: building and material science; drying complex materials and systems; safety and health; project coordination, documentation, logistics and risk management; inspections, preliminary determinations and pre-restoration evaluations; limitations, complexities, complications, and conflicts; specialized experts; restoration procedures; HVAC; evaluation and furniture, fixtures and equipment; historical buildings; government; and healthcare facilities.
