There are three ways to bill for contents cleaning: by the hour, by the box and by the item. 

There are indeed a lot of marketing programs out there to choose from. And while many of them are good, some of them miss the mark entirely. There is no one thing or a “magic bullet” if you will when it comes to marketing in this industry. 

 When deciding whether to pack out or clean in-place, I ask myself the following questions: 

Expanding into contents cleaning is a very good profit center to add to any restoration business. It has one of the highest profit margins in the industry if you have a good systemized process and well trained staff.

Do not try to interpret an insurance policy and commit an adjuster by speaking for them. If you work at being the solution partner for both parties involved, you will ensure a win for everyone.

It depends on what services you are going to handle completely in house and what aspects of the cleaning and restoration you will sub to other specialty contractors. 

It is really important that you have diversification on your team, especially when it comes to cleaning contents.

There are some things that you can do to break through the initial hesitation or lack of confidence that you may receive from an adjuster at the beginning of a job.

I have been in this industry for 14-plus years and I can happily say I have never negotiated or settled for anything less than payment in full for all services rendered when getting a check from an adjuster.

Personal protective equipment (PPE) is usually minimal when it comes to contents restoration. However, it all depends on what type of job it is.
