Delta Disaster Services Opening Colorado’s First Certified Flood House Training Facility

Industry News
November 19, 2018

Delta Disaster Services, a nationally recognized and award-winning franchise brand that provides property restoration services to commercial and residential customers, will be opening Colorado’s first certified flood house training facility in Arvada, just outside of Denver near the company’s corporately run operation and franchise headquarters. The flood house will serve as a safe environment in which real-world simulations can be created by flooding a 1,500 square-foot structure and allowing Delta Disaster Services franchise owners and their employees to learn best practices and refine their restoration and reconstruction skills.

There are less than 20 Applied Structural Drying (ASD) flood houses in the U.S. that are certified by the Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC), the restoration industry’s governing body. With the new facility, Delta Disaster Services staff will flood the structure and then train on best practices for how to restore the building to a dry and stable environment, allowing them to become proficient in their technique as well as time efficient and cost effective.

Training courses, which will be led by both Delta Disaster Services experts and external restoration professionals and will include industry partners, will teach technicians proper techniques of structural drying across a variety of materials, which will prepare them for any situation they face on the job. The facility can also simulate smoke conditions and will be used for training in smoke restoration, contents cleaning and restoration, and reconstruction. Other benefits for Delta Disaster Services franchisees include learning various inspection techniques, how to properly operate industry equipment, and field application of the company’s proprietary software and paperless documentation practices.

Slated to open in the spring of 2019, the structure will be the first ASD flood house in the Rocky Mountain region and will be exclusively used to train people who are part of the Delta Disaster Services franchise network. All employees – including owner-operators and entry-level technicians from Delta Disaster Services franchise locations around the country as well as staff from its company-owned location – will benefit from the hands-on, real-life learning and experience they gain at the facility.

“Making this type of investment to train our owners and their staff in a world-class, real-world environment demonstrates our commitment to providing our franchise partners with the best training in the industry, so they’re empowered to serve customers with unmatched restoration services,” said Michael Mastous, president and founder of Delta Disaster Services. “This facility will be integral in helping new franchisees get off to a strong, fast start with their business as well as allowing our existing owners to keep their skills sharp and remain up-to-date on the latest equipment and techniques. As we continue to aggressively grow our brand and our footprint nationally, this facility will serve a bigger role in maintaining our high training standards, and even has the potential to create new jobs here in Denver.”

With all Delta Disaster Services franchises required to have five IICRC certifications before opening, the flood house will be a valuable resource in helping new owners achieve these core certifications. Delta Disaster Services’ certification requirements and training regimen place its franchisees in the top one percent of all restoration companies nationwide.

Since being acquired earlier this year by HRI Holdings, which also owns the Chem-Dry Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning and N-Hance Wood Refinishing franchise brands, Delta Disaster Services has seen dramatic growth. In just six months of franchises being available under the new ownership, Delta Disaster Services has sold 21 new licenses and significantly expanded its national presence. The new franchises are located in Texas, Utah, California, Missouri, Oregon, Washington and Indiana. Once all new locations are open, Delta Disaster Services will have operations in 40 markets across the U.S.
