Inspiring the Next Generation of Restoration Professionals
Chad and Olivia Haynes share their insights on educating the youth, IICRC Certifications, and building a career in the restoration industry
Welcome back to a very special episode of Ask the Expert. This week, we're joined by father-daughter duo Chad Haynes and Olivia Haynes of 911 Restoration of Central Arkansas. Olivia recently earned her IICRC Water Damage Restoration Technician (WRT) and Applied Structural Drying (ASD) certifications. Not only did she complete the training and pass her exams, but she also became the youngest female to earn these certifications. Chad and Olivia share Olivia's journey, her passion for restoration, and a fun initiative that introduced the restoration industry to high school students.
Key topics of discussion include:
- Chad's path into restoration began with a construction background and a desire to stay close to home. He brings years of general contracting, custom home building and remodeling experience to his full-service restoration business.
- Olivia's interest in restoration grew naturally by tagging along with Chad to work. What started as time spent around the office quickly turned into a curiosity about the work, the equipment and the impact restoration professionals have on their customers.
- Earning her WRT and ASD certifications at such a young age reflects Olivia's discipline, confidence and strong work ethic, especially given the technical complexity of the material and the challenge of testing alongside adults.
- One moment that stands out to Chad came when Olivia solved a real business problem on the spot, demonstrating strong instincts, sound judgment and a natural ability to think through restoration challenges with both the customer and the company in mind.
- The family's Pathways training event for high school students demonstrated the value of early exposure by giving students hands-on experience with restoration equipment, jobsite scenarios, and career opportunities throughout the industry.
