Peel & Stick Membranes for Tile and Stone

June 2, 2011

MP Global Products recently introduced two high performing time- and labor-saving self-adhesive membranes for floor and wall tiling.

MP Global Products recently introduced two high performing time- and labor-saving self-adhesive membranes for floor and wall tiling. UltraLayer® Peel & Stick, is a self-adhesive acoustic and protective membrane for under ceramic tile, porcelain tile and natural stone. TileQu!ck™ is a self-adhesive backing for wall tile. Both products cut back on the need for thinset mortar, clean-up and dry time.

Featuring a self-stick adhesive under a peel-able protective backing, UtlraLayer P&S underlayment installs onto concrete subfloors smoothly and quickly. Simply peel off the coating, press the membrane to the subfloor, and you're ready to set tile over the top.

UltraLayer P&S is made with the same eco-friendly manufacturing, acoustic and insulating technologies used in all MP Global Products' fiber underlayment, including QuietWalk® and FiberBacker®. The randomly air-laid filaments create a capillary effect to cushion the floor and absorb impact and airborne sound, minimizing the transfer of noise to the room below. When used with tile, the elasticity of UltraLayer P&S resists transferring of lateral concrete subfloor cracks through to the tile above. The insulating R-Value of UltraLayer P&S helps moderate floor temperature, keeping floors cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. The high-temperature manufacturing process kills bacteria and fungus and an EPA registered antimicrobial additive inhibits mold growth and helps prevent development of dust-mite colonies. And the 0.10" thickness of the underlayment helps smooth out little subfloor imperfections.

Like most of MP Global Products fiber padding, UltraLayer P&S is made primarily of recycled textile and carpet fibers diverted from landfills. Odorless and hypo-allergenic, the underlayment is LEED compliant and can contribute to the overall percentage of pre-consumer content for LEED certification in the category of Materials and Resources.

The same time-saving and labor-saving convenience afforded by UltraLayer P&S is also available for wall tiling with TileQ!ick™ Tile Adhesive Mat with adhesive on both sides. TileQu!ck creates an instant strong-adhesive bond to the wall without messy mortar and without the wait typically associated with tradition methods and materials, making it easy to tile and grout backsplashes and countertops with small or large tiles all in the same day.

TileQu!ck is lightweight and flexible. It rolls out neatly, ready for cutting with a utility knife. Peel off the back liner and press TileQu!ck against the wall. When ready to tile, peel off the second liner and adhere the wall tile to the mat. The tile is ready to grout immediately.

"When a contractor is working in multiple units in multi-family housing, high-rise condos, or apartment buildings, the time and labor savings add up mighty quick," notes Bob Pratt, technical director at MP Global Products. "And in occupied spaces, the quick start to finish tiling minimizes any tenant inconvenience."
