FOND DU LAC -- The road to flood recovery has been patched, paved and made smooth again by the maintenance team at the Fond du Lac School District.

The school district was so hard hit during the 2008 storm that caused catastrophic flooding that parts of it became a county tourist attraction. Curiosity-seekers came to view the underwater field, peek in at mud-filled swimming pools, and see the gym floor - buckled like a roller coaster - at Riverside School.

Damages exceeded $800,000, and so far the district has been reimbursed $500,000 through insurance coverage. Another $300,000 has been requested from FEMA, but only $40,000 has been received to date.Want the whole story?
