GREENSBORO N.C. - The Government Center on W. Washington St. is serving as center stage for post-flood cleanup in downtown Greensboro.

Getting a timeline on completion of all cleanup work is difficult.

Grasshoppers' baseball team owner Don Moore said he's thankful the field at NewBridge Bank Ball Park soaked up most of the water.

"Originally, we thought the flood waters were so strong they'd blown the manhole covers off," said Moore. He said his quick thinking maintenance workers quickly pulled off the manhole covers near the ballpark so the flood water would drain quicker.

Greensboro native Tommy Smith said Wednesday's weather was a blast from the past.

"June of '69 and I can't remember anything like that since then until last night," said Smith.

Wednesday's flooding caused damage to 13 buildings on the University of North Carolina-Greensboro campus.Want the whole story?
