1-800-PACK-RAT, LLC, a service leader in portable storage and moving solutions, recently worked with Habitat for Humanity of Durham to build a playhouse for a local charity. A team of employees from 1-800-PACK-RAT arrived early in the morning to spend the day cutting, painting and assembling a playhouse that will be used by kids in a community garden at Passage Home in Raleigh, NC.

The Durham chapter of Habitat for Humanity’s mission is to take people out of the poverty cycle by providing safe, affordable housing so families can begin growing equity to better their lives. They have built and sold over 300 homes and repaired more than 150 homes for their local community over the course of 31 years.

The Habitat Playhouse Program brings companies and communities together to build playhouses that will benefit families with children or programs that work with children. Since the inception of the Playhouse program, over 75 playhouses have been created raising over $150,000 for Durham’s affordable housing program.

Once the playhouse was completed, 1-800-PACK-RAT was able to utilize one of its portable storage container and its mini-mover trucks to deliver the playhouse to Passage Home’s community garden. Passage Home is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1991 and is dedicated to the revitalization of low-income areas and helping families become self-sufficient through employment and education training.  Passage Home offers after-school programs to local children including summer camps, STEM education and farm-to-table food demonstrations aimed at helping children grow healthy produce in areas where organic foods are difficult to attain without means of transportation.  The Habitat for Humanity playhouse will reside in the Passage Home community children’s garden.

“Being involved and giving back to our local communities is something all of us at 1-800-PACK-RAT are passionate about. Not only does Habitat for Humanity provide companies a chance to help their local communities, but they also provide great team-building programs,” said James Burati III, Sr. VP Sales and Marketing with 1-800-PACK-RAT. He continued, “We were very happy to be able to give the playhouse a permanent residence at Passage Home in Raleigh where numerous children will be able to enjoy it.”

A video showing the delivery of the playhouse from Durham Habitat for Humanity to Passage Home can be found on 1-800-PACK-RAT’s YouTube Channel.
