IICRC Update: On the S800, Global Resource Center and More

By Tom Hill
March 5, 2014

ANSI/IICRC S800

Standard and Reference Guide

In early February, the IICRC announced the publication of the new ANSI/IICRC S800 Standard and Reference Guide for Professional Inspection of Textile Floorcoverings. This standard defines basic operational procedures and techniques for inspecting/evaluating carpet types, characteristics and conditions, specification, installation procedures and post-installation maintenance and cleaning. This enables professional inspectors to determine appropriate procedures for inspecting textile floor coverings.

The S800 is not written to teach detailed inspection procedures. Numerous manuals, videotapes, workshops and seminars are available to teach comprehensive textile floor covering inspection procedures. This standard was created for use primarily by professional inspectors, and secondarily for carpet manufacturers, product suppliers, building contractors, architects, specifiers, designers, distributors, flooring retailers, end users, facility managers, institutions and others involved in the textile flooring inspection industry.

Every textile floor covering has unique characteristics, and each inspection project should be carefully evaluated to determine proper application of this standard. In some circumstances, deviation from portions of this standard may be appropriate, however, carelessness is never acceptable, and common sense and professional judgment are to be exercised in all cases.

To purchase a copy of the ANSI/IICRC S800 Standard and Reference Guide and other IICRC standards, please visit www.iicrc.org/store or call the IICRC headquarters at (360) 693-5675.

Global Resource Center Opened, Peter Crosa Elected to BOD

The IICRC would like to thank everyone who attended the new Global Resource Center Grand Opening Celebration while they were in Las Vegas in January. The event, which took place during the winter Board of Directors meeting, featured an official ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce and an open house reception where attendees were able to tour the new facility and network with other industry professionals.

This was the second Board meeting to take place at the new property since its purchase in 2013. Also taking place during the meeting was a special election to fill an open seat on the IICRC Board of Directors. After closed-ballot voting, Peter Crosa was elected. Crosa has an extensive background as an independent adjuster and many years of experience in marketing services to the insurance industry.

IICRC and IEHA Partner to Promote Cleaning Industry Awareness

In early February, the IICRC signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the IEHA, formerly the International Executive Housekeepers Association. The partnership will allow both organizations to openly collaborate and raise awareness about the value of continuing education and certification programs within their shared industries.

“Partnering with the IEHA provides the Institute with an opportunity to engage a new audience and further our reach within the executive housekeeping community,” said Tony Wheelwright, Chairman of the IICRC. “This collaboration will allow for both organizations to work together and implement innovative ideas for years to come.”

Through the memorandum, the IICRC and IEHA will maintain a working relationship which will involve the exchange of industry knowledge between organization executives. As part of the agreement, the organizations will cross promote their educational programs while evaluating additional opportunities for collaboration.
