IICRC Update: Standards, the Global Resource Center and More

By Tom Hill
January 6, 2014

IICRC NewsS500 Public Review Update

The IICRC S500 Standard and Reference Guide for Professional Water Damage Restoration was made available for public review earlier in 2013, and we received a lot of comments that have helped us to create a revised document with multiple changes and clarifications throughout. This revised draft Standard will be available for a second round of public review through January 20, 2014 through the IICRC website. We invite all stakeholders to review the revised draft and submit comments as needed by clicking here.

Call for Members

The IICRC is actively seeking volunteers from all interest categories of the industry to serve on the consensus bodies for:

·         BSR-IICRC S210 Standard and Reference Guide on Dimension Stone Maintenance and Restoration

·         IICRC S300 Standard and Reference Guide for Professional Upholstery Cleaning

·         BSR-IICRC S540 Standard and Reference Guide for Trauma and Crime Scene Biological and Infectious Hazard Clean Up

To join a consensus body, or to find out more about its purpose, please reach out to Mili Washington at mili@iicrc.org.

IICRC Global Resource Center Grand Opening Event

Save the date! Join the IICRC for a grand opening event at the Institute’s new Global Resource Center in Las Vegas on January 27, 2014 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Taking place in advance of the Surfaces Trade Show (Jan. 28-30), the event will feature a ribbon cutting ceremony and guided tour followed by an open house and networking reception with light hors d’oeuvres.

Since its purchase in July, the property has undergone extensive remodeling to better serve the IICRC. As the team continues to vet potential uses for the building, possible contributions for an industry museum are being explored. If you have a unique product, photo or piece of history that might make for a worthwhile addition to the museum, please contact Darrel Paulson at darrell.paulson@advrestore.com.

To register for the event, please visit iicrc.org/rsvp2014.

New Certified Firm Benefit in 2014

IICRC Certified Firms receive several benefits for signing up or renewing their certification status. This past year, the Firm benefit was six-month membership to the IICRC’s Council of Associations (IICRCA). This January, the new member benefit will be a year-long enrollment in a special IICRCA benefit package that includes discounted business services and lowered rates, such as:

·         25% off of payroll services

·         Up to 90% off office supplies (and free overnight shipping)

·         19% off of wireless phone plans

·         25% off of uniforms purchases

·         5% off of uniform rentals (and elimination of weekly service and delivery charges – equivalent to a $400 savings per year)

·         4 ½ cents off gasoline purchases at selected pumps

·         …and much, much more.

For more information on the new Firm benefit plans, visit www.iicrca.org.

IICRC Seeking Technical Writers

The IICRC is seeking technical writers for its upcoming peer-reviewed journal serving the cleaning, restoration and inspection industries. Slated to be published six times per year, the first issue will be released in early 2014.

Titled The Journal, the publication will provide in-depth technical articles focusing on the four disciplines represented by the IICRC: hard-surface cleaning, soft-surface cleaning, disaster restoration and inspection. Additionally, The Journal’s distribution audience will be certified firms, master cleaners, master restorers, inspectors, IICRC schools and instructors and members of the IICRCA.

If you are interested in submitting editorial content to appear in The Journal, please see our Author Guidelines and Editorial Submission Form at iicrc.org.
