DKI President/CEO Asks for Contributions to Newtown, CT Fund

December 18, 2012

The following is an open letter to DKI members from Dan Cassara, the president/CEO of DKI:

 Dear Friends of DKI -

An unknown author wrote, “There is no foot so small that it cannot leave an imprint on this world,”

I write you today with a heavy heart and in continued disbelief at what occurred last Friday, December 14, 2012 in Newtown, CT, and how 26 families will be forever impacted by a senseless event. At DKI, we restore property and in doing so, will often say, we restore lives. When events take place that effect property, DKI is the first to step up and do what we can to impact people’s lives in the best way possible. In an event like the one that occurred on Friday, we at DKI are simply at a loss. As the father of a young child, I can’t personally begin to imagine what the parents, family, and friends of the victims are going through and my thoughts and prayers go out to them. This sentiment and the need to make an impact, has motivated me to send you all this communication today. My role at DKI has given me a forum and ability to connect with so many, and in doing so, I would like to use that forum wisely.

Though we cannot directly fix what has been damaged, it was important to me that DKI do what we can to help these families work through this incredibly challenging time.

Immediately following this tragic event, the families, friends, and community of Sandy Hook Elementary School created a fund with the goal to raise $2 million by January 30, 2013. This fund was designed to take some of the financial burden and stress off of the families during their time of grief and recovery. That being said, DKI has made a monetary donation to the Connecticut Tragedy Relief Fund, and I would like to encourage you, if you have it within your means to do so, to contribute to this fund as well.

There are several ways you can contribute to this cause:

  • My Sandy Hook Family Fund: https://everribbon.com/ribbon/view/10076
  • Sandy Hook Elementary Victims Relief Fund: http://www.crowdrise.com/SHSRelief
  • Western Connecticut Heath Network Foundation:  https://1460.thankyou4caring.org/page.aspx?pid=298

In addition to these resources, donations can also be mailed to:

Sandy Hook School Support Fund
Attn: Newtown Savings Bank
39 Main Street, Newtown CT 06470

If you are able to contribute this great cause, fantastic. If you are not, thank you for at a minimum taking the time to communicate this donation vehicle to those around you. In an age where communication happens at lightning speed, now is no better time to share this link with all those who you can.

Thank you for your time, your consideration and continued support.
