The Global Catastrophe Training initiative was launched in January of this year by two restoration industry leaders, Leanne Welsh and Christopher Carter. Recognizing a gap in real-world, scenario-based training for restoration contractors, they created a program focused on teaching efficient management of Catastrophe Large Loss job sites. Driven by their understanding of field challenges and common errors, especially during catastrophic events like hurricanes, they designed this training to address these issues and provide effective solutions.Global Catastrophe Training stands out for its immersive hands-on approach, featuring a hospital facility with 60,000 square feet of workable space. Students also stay in an onsite man camp, providing them with genuine real-world experience of living and working on a catastrophe large loss job. This unique setup ensures that participants gain practical skills and insights that are directly applicable to real disaster scenarios.

Global Catastrophe's Processes and Procedures Level One training provides attendees with an engaging and immersive experience centered on the practicalities of disaster response. Participants receive the unique opportunity to develop a rough order of magnitude (ROM), a drying plan, and a scope of work for a large-loss catastrophe project, engaging in a range of hands-on activities that highlight vital processes and procedures. They are also introduced to various estimating methods, including square foot rates and not-to-exceed limits, learning the pros and cons of each.

The training commences with important morning lineups and safety briefings, where participants are educated on critical safety protocols before advancing to practical applications. This foundational training emphasizes the significance of safety processes and open dialogue with employees as a cornerstone of successful catastrophe management. In a spacious facility featuring multiple operational areas, attendees utilize Clean Claims in real-world scenarios, gaining first hand insight into the advantages and capabilities of remote monitoring systems.

Participants also undergo comprehensive training on DocuSketch, using the software as if they were actively engaged on a job site, which provides them with invaluable experience in effectively documenting and managing disaster restoration projects.

The training includes an intensive hands-on deodorization session put on by ProKlean, where participants encountered strong, persistent odors and observed the impressive efficiency of the ProKure deodorization process, witnessing firsthand the remarkable results achieved through effective odor removal techniques.

Throughout the training, attendees reside in our man camps, experiencing diverse overnight conditions that simulate real disaster scenarios. This element of the training deepen their understanding of what it means to be on-site during an emergency, highlighting the challenges and realities of such situations.

Participants also gain practical experience setting up desiccants throughout the facility, from ducting installation to running lay-flat hoses, ensuring they have true hands-on exposure to setting up critical equipment.

In a spirit of friendly competition, attendees collaborate in teams to set up power distribution equipment, air movers, and complete documentation processes reflecting the training they received during the week. This collaborative effort fosters a valuable learning experience marked by teamwork and camaraderie.

Overall, the training is a remarkable experience, equipping attendees with practical skills, insightful knowledge, and the real-world experience of working long, demanding hours alongside their colleagues in the field of disaster. Our next class is June 24-26th, we look forward to seeing you there!
