Temperatures are going to drop over the next few days and households in the Eastern Carolinas will need to crank up the heat to stay warm, but this is when the area typically see more house fires.

Space heaters account for a third of home heating fires and 80 percent of home heating fire deaths according to the National Fire Protection Association.

Placing anything that will burn close to heating equipment is asking for trouble, use a three feet radius.
