DOYLESTOWN, PA, AUGUST 3, 2011 – The National Demolition Association (NDA) is launching its first regional Fall Education Program with courses in demolition safety training, project management, and estimating to be held Sept. 23-24 at the Turf Valley resort in Ellicott City, MD, just outside Baltimore.
The Education Program immediately precedes the NDA-sponsored Annual C&D Recycling Forum at the same venue, scheduled for Sept. 25-27. “With the demolition and general contractors, C&D processors, waste haulers, and solid waste and recycling experts coming to the Forum, it’s advantageous to everyone to offer the training at that location so there’s no extra travel involved,” said Michael R. Taylor, CAE, NDA Executive Director. “Anyone involved in the demolition process can benefit from these courses.”
Over Sept. 23 and 24, the NDA Safety Committee is offering the OSHA 10-hour Demolition-Specific Program. The course covers all elements of OSHA’s safety training requirements for the demolition process, including an introduction to OSHA; the “Focus Four” hazards of electrical, falls, caught between, and struck by; personal protective equipment; health hazards in construction; hand and power tools; scaffolding; and other issues common to a demolition work site.
On Friday Sept. 23 in the afternoon, Dr. Mark Shaurette of Purdue University and co-author of the book Demolition: Practices, Technology and Management, will teach how a demolition project progresses from project award to close-out. Current and aspiring project managers will learn about demolition site management, planning considerations, and offsite interactions that must be dealt with to keep a project moving.
On Saturday afternoon on Sept. 24, Richard Diven, demolition industry consultant and co-author of Demolition: Practices, Technology and Management, will provide the in-depth guidance to producing a realistic estimate for a demolition project.
The fee schedule for the NDA Fall Education Program is OSHA 10-hour Demolition Specific course: $200 for NDA members, $250 for non-members; Demolition Project Management course: $150 for members, $200 for non-members; and Demolition Estimating course: $150 for members, $200 for non-members.
