Gaithersburg, Md. – The Mid-Maryland Chapter of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) recognized Paul Davis Restoration and Remodeling at the annual Contractor of the Year (CotY) awards program on Oct. 21. According to Brock Merwin, Paul Davis Restoration vice president and general manager, the company won the designation of Grand Winner in Residential Kitchens over $150,000.

“The general purpose of the kitchen remodel was for the homeowners to have a space that would flow into the backyard where they have extensive hardscaping, an outdoor pool table, fountains, gas fire pits and another kitchen,” said Merwin. “The homeowners are frequent entertainers and it is not uncommon for them to have 40 friends along with children and pets in the kitchen and around the house at one time,” he said.

Some of the winning project features included a granite island top that measures 6 feet by 12 feet, an on-demand, built-in coffee maker with constant water supply and hidden bean grinder, three sinks and two dishwashers, plus a separate beverage area with under counter ice and separate beer and wine refrigeration. Additionally, a hidden flat screen TV was built in. “To support the remodeled kitchen which includes a continuous ceiling, a flush beam was installed which supports the second floor and roof load. The entire kitchen space now measures 19 feet by 34 feet and was previously only 19 feet by 18 feet,” said Merwin.

“We are extremely proud of the award. As a top local winner, we are now eligible for additional NARI CotY awards and plan to submit the kitchen project,” said Merwin.

“We’d like to thank our employees who deserve the credit including our sales team, project managers and estimators. These key individuals are responsible for the success of many beautiful, award-winning restorations and remodeling projects in the Gaithersburg and Frederick area.”

Merwin and his team submitted the project with before-and-after photography and a project description. The award was based on problem solving, functionality, aesthetics, craftsmanship, innovation, degree of difficulty, and entry presentation.
