(St. Paul, Minn) -- The Association of Women Contractors (AWC) announced today that the organization will host its 12th Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament July 21, 2009.  

AWC is committed to strengthening the community by providing substantial scholarship money to women in higher education or apprenticeships who are seeking construction industry-related degrees and experience. 

The primary source of funding for the scholarship program is the annual golf event.  This year’s tournament is to be held Tuesday July 21, 2009 at StoneRidge Golf Course in Stillwater, Minnesota.   The event starts at 11:30 a.m.  J&L Steel and Electrical Services, in Hudson, Wisconsin is the 2009 Premier Event Sponsor.

“Thanks to the sponsors and attendees of this annual event we have been able to award $49,000 in scholarships since 2001,” said Barb Christensen, Executive Director of AWC.  “Last year’s event allowed us to donate $1,000 towards tuition for ten young women.  I hope we can continue the momentum entering our 12th year.”

The Association of Women Contractors is committed to giving women-owned construction companies an active voice in the Minnesota business community. The statewide organization promotes contract opportunities, monitors legislative issues impacting the industry, and provides networking opportunities for women contractors.
