The Health and Safety Technician (HST) certification is designed to provide leadership training in occupational health and safety. This certification will provide information and training to students in the cleaning, maintenance, and restoration industries concerning the Global Harmonized System (GHS) and health and safety principles. The certification will cover engineering and administrative controls, work practices, and personal protective equipment used in each specific industry or trade.

The certification will promote the importance of hazards and risk assessments and how to implement controls on the identified hazards. The hierarchy of hazard controls will be emphasized so that eliminating, reducing, and controlling hazards will become the focus of health and safety instead of just regulatory compliance.

Upon completing the certification, a student will have the skills, knowledge, and awareness they need to save lives and prevent work-related injuries and illnesses and recognize and appreciate the value of health and safety on the job. It will also promote the understanding and importance of health and safety in the workplace.
