November 14, 2024

As the year winds down, it’s hard to believe how quickly time has flown right by us. We've seen numerous events that brought us together as an industry, showing why we do what we do every single day. Our work can be thankless, but at Restoration & Remediation (R&R), we’re grateful for you every day.

Your sacrifices are immense. You provide hope, clarity, and healing to those who need it most. You are our industry's first responders, and for that, I am forever grateful. With the holiday season upon us, I hope you enjoy time with your family and friends. One thing you should remember is, it’s okay to be tired, ask for help, and take a moment to recharge. Our industry has resources ready to support you when you need it most. A special thank you to our families and friends who support us as we come together to help others.

This year has demonstrated the resilience and dedication of industry professionals like you. From natural disasters to everyday emergencies, you’ve stepped up time and again to restore homes, businesses, and, most importantly, the lives of those affected. Your work may go unnoticed, but it is never unappreciated. The difference you make has an impact that is immeasurable.

Looking back on this year, it’s clear our industry isn’t just about fixing what’s broken. It’s about rebuilding trust, restoring hope, and offering comfort in times of need. Each project you take on is more than a job; it’s a mission to bring normalcy back to people’s lives, and that mission is invaluable.

As I wrap up my first two months as your Editor-in-Chief, I want to reflect on what this industry means to me. This amazing industry has brought me opportunity, strength, and a love for the work we do. It’s an honor and a privilege to work alongside professionals who are always ready to lend a hand, share their knowledge, and support one another. This sense of community makes our industry unique and drives my passion.

As we prepare to close out the year, I’m excited to announce that nominations for the Women in Restoration Award open on Dec. 1 and close Jan. 11, 2025. This is your chance to celebrate the remarkable women who inspire and lead us forward. Their contributions to our industry are invaluable, and this is one way we are able to recognize their hard work and dedication.

I hope you have a wonderful holiday season and I look forward to what 2025 brings. Wherever this industry takes us, our purpose doesn’t change, and we’re here to travel the path together. Thank you for your commitment and the difference you make each day.

Happy holidays and warmest wishes,

Kayla McGowan
Editor-in-Chief, R&R
