At The Experience Convention & Trade Show 2021, Steven Hergott, owner of Inspired Indoor Air, presented on how indoor air quality (IAQ) is impacted by HVAC systems in partnership with the National Organization of Remediators and Mold Inspectors (NORMI).

In this video interview, Hergott shares why HVAC should matter to remediators, both as a potential vehicle for spreading contaminants and solution for removing contaminants. He also shares takeaways from his book, Healthy Harmless Home, and offers a preview of its upcoming sequel based on learnings around techniques to best deal with COVID-19 in the air and on surfaces.

Hergott points out that remediators should educate themselves on three different types of ductwork distribution systems he considers most prevalent in the U.S.

He closes with an acronym, MVPs, which he considers HVAC solutions to indoor air quality problems:

  • Moisture control (add and/or subtract)
  • Ventilation choices
  • Particle reduction (MERV, HEPA, etc.)
  • Sanitization protocols (the secret weapons)
