Amherstburg flood damage pegged at $8 million
AMHERSTBURG, Ont. -- The storm that blew through Amherstburg and soaked the basements of at least 405 homes will cost insurers at least $8 million, according to figures provided by seven restoration companies on Wednesday.
“I don’t think that’s unrealistic or exaggerating,” said David Cowlin, owner of H.L. Hamilton Insurance Brokers who had 50 clients report flooding. “I think that’s on the lower end.”
The number of flooded homes caused by Tuesday’s storm and cleanup costs are expected to rise until Sunday as residents return home from vacations and discover water damage.
