Cleaning High End Carpet Cleaning and Adding Rug Cleaning
Shawn Bisaillon, The Carpet Coach
Area Rugs-The Basics: Cleaning rugs…. Should this be done On-site or Off-Site? An overview of getting rugs done: From the Home to The Plant. Many flooring cleaners will be challenged with dealing with Area rugs which we are asked to clean for our customers. Some of these rugs will be exotic beautiful pieces of art. Many of the rugs would be considered more for the utility than the art of the woven textile. Come learn the difference.

Cleaning these rugs might not always be best accomplished with the rug left where it lives. From fiber to floor we will review the basics of area rugs and the many ways professionals have and do approach their care. On-site and In-Plant cleaning systems will be reviewed. How do you put together a full-service rug washing operation and what is different about this compared to on-site “maintenance cleaning and spotting”.

Shawn Bisaillon will share his 30+ years’ experience in and around the rug cleaning business. Shawn started his long professional cleaning career as a young apprentice rug cleaner with his family. He continues to work with 1000’s of cleaners helping them along their business growth and training. Cleaning Carpet Cleaning Made Simple, Let’s Get Back To Basics!
Thomas Cermak, Carpet Repair Masters
What are the essential basic elements of a successful carpet cleaning experience for both you and your customer? How do you build ongoing relationships for repeat business? Below is a list of the basics that we will cover in our discussion and maybe a review of the overall processes that are the basics. Let’s talk about why so many of these simple steps are often overlooked or improperly implemented, and how that impacts both you and your customer. What if you were building a relationship business and grew your business on repeat business? These are the basics:
  1. Pre-inspection – How communication is a vital role in the job and identifying problems prior to the job instead of allowing them to be your problems
  2. Vacuuming - Who does it? Why is it so important?
  3. Pre-condition (+pre-spot) - How far to go, and how much should you be using?
  4. Agitation - Can’t we just skip this?
  5. Rinse - minimal residue goals
  6. Post spotting - What next?
  7. Groom – Sharks Teeth? What's really the big deal?
  8. Accelerated drying - We can’t all live in the desert and have 15 min. dry times.
Thomas will discuss why skipping steps can be not only be shortchanging the customer but shortchanging yourself.

Restoration Taking A Strategic Approach To Growing Your Restoration Business
Phil Rosebrook Jr., Business Mentors
Develop A Marketing Plan That Creates A Profitable And Valuable Business. Were you excited to get on the latest insurance program to get more leads and sales? Great closing rates and steady claims. Your team is busy, and the claims keep rolling in. Now you find that you are working harder but struggling to generate cash and profits. Your project managers are handling more files and subcontractors are starting to complain about the prices you can pay for work. Your overhead and stress are both increasing while margins are decreasing.

Program work is not good or bad. What is bad is the approach to take on more program work without a plan. Many companies stop their marketing programs in exchange for automatic leads from TPA’s and vendor programs. Contractors make a mistake by not developing a deliberate plan on where and how work will come from in the future.

In this session we will provide a plan to develop a proactive and deliberate business development and marketing plan. A healthy company has not more than 5-10% of all their work coming from individual sources. You will learn strategies that will help you increase commercial leads and direct referrals and develop a balanced marketing program that leads to a more stable and successful business.

General Remote Monitoring & Creating Transparency with Factual Real Time Data
Lane Larsen, CleanClaims
Join the discussion on how to make your day-to-day technicians document everything you need every time, no matter what. The big thing will be demonstrating is how proprietary remote monitoring gets the job done and it provides real time data with the most accuracy.

This Presentation will show how you will be able to consistently get daily readings, photos, notes, equipment logs, etc. and be able to share this information with your client or the insurance carrier in daily reports or a live link that they can see things happening in real time. This is what eliminates the “he said she said” arguing and creates the transparency that has never existed between the restorer and the client. This will eliminate any doubt and guarantee payment for work that has been done.

Floor Covering Construction - Soft and Hard Surface
Robert Blochinger, Blochinger and Company
Soft surface is considered carpet and rugs, any material that is from a fiber, natural or man-made. There are two basic construction methods, tufted (generally the most used) and woven (specialized for performance and pattern). Within the tufted product there are variations to style, pattern, color, and construction, however the basic common construction is the same and there are limitations. Within the woven system, the patterns and colors are limitless, and there are both loop and cut pile versions of the weave.

Hard surface products as, stone, ceramic, resilient, also have 2 basic construction method, layered or solid. Marble and it various other natural products are a solid. Ceramic is usually a layered product, as a base and surface topping. Porcelain is a man-made product, as ceramic, typically a solid but can have a surface topping. Resilient flooring, a LVT, LVP, are a layered combination of different materials with a specific surface layer for pattern and color. Solid resilient, vinyl or rubber, can be a pure material or combined with various chemically acceptable components, formed into colors and patterns.

Both flooring products and materials are made for residential and commercial use with specific substrate preparation requirements, installation methods and sundry materials and maintenance processes.

Pista En Español ¿Cómo encaja la Inspección de IAQ (Calidad de Aire Interna) en el negocio?
Erika Collantes, NORMI™ Trainer CMACMR
Spanish Track How does IAQ Assessment Fit Into The Business
Erika Collantes, NORMI™ CMACMR Trainer
The process of assessing is needed for both sides of the industry: assessment and remediation. Remediators must learn how to evaluate a project with a baseline assessment, do Interim Assessments during the project and final the project with a PRE (post remediation evaluation) prior to the PRV. Understanding the assessment process is critical to a successful project.

Cleaning “The Money Is In The Maintenance” Stop cleaning filthy dirty carpets.
Dane Gregory, Carpet Cleaner America
Operating a floor or carpet cleaning business is more than a full time job. We have to be aware of how our companies operate in the field to be profitable. One sure way to make less profit is to work on filthy, dirty carpets and floors. Veteran cleaners understand this to be true and they avoid it at all costs because cleaning filthy dirty carpet increases TIME and LABOR costs.

Finding customers that can maintain carpets and flooring, without the heavy lifting of dealing with filthy, dirty flooring materials will keep your labor costs lower and the company more profitable. This is where low moisture maintenance operations really gain some traction in the marketplace. Low moisture operations truly shine in a lower soil environment. Several maintenance operations over a given period of time are always less costly to deliver due to the increase in productivity, rather than one cleaning of a filthy, dirty floor.

This session will explain fully how to match the right process to the correct customer so everyone involved in the maintenance operation walks away happy and overcome with joy because the money is in the maintenance.

Restoration Case Study by Encircle, Lessons Learned from Hurricane Ian: Expectations vs Reality
Paul Donald, Encircle
In January, Paul Donald, CEO of Encircle, shared that Encircle customers in Florida saw – on average – a 226% increase in job volume following Hurricane Ian. Restorers saw their workloads triple. This is the ultimate stress test for any restorer so we set out to uncover what this really means. Some of the questions we sought to answer were: Did they triple their profits? Did they meet their revenue expectations? Did they get paid?

What we learned is that 80% of restorers saw slower payments – making cash flow a major challenge as CATs incur a number of additional expenses in stark contrast to their regular work – and a startling 67% failed to meet their revenue expectations.

In this session, we’ll go into a deeper dive into what this really means, including sharing candid feedback from the boots-on-the-ground restorers we surveyed. For the 33% who did meet their revenue expectations, we’ll share what they did that separated them from the pack and what restorers can do to financially succeed in the next CAT.

Cleaning for Health Workshop: Helping Essential Workers Identify Reservoirs for Germs
Doug Hoffman, NORMI
Dr. Gavin Macgregor-Skinner, GBAC, a Division of ISSA
Jim Mannes, Shaw Product Care
The professional cleaning industry already does much to reduce health risks indoors and should take credit for this work. Cleaning businesses can grow and prosper by knowing the reservoirs for germ survival and spread and by viewing ourselves as managers of safety and health in the built environment.

This training workshop consists of three sessions:
Session 1 – What does it mean to recognize risk?
Session 2 – How germs spread and make people sick
Session 3 – Human body and built environment reservoirs important for our industry and your business

In this workshop you will learn:
  • Germs need five elements to spread and cause infection
  • There are four main pathways that spread germs
  • Germs are found in certain places – called reservoirs – and need a pathway to spread to other places and people
  • There are five reservoirs in the built environment that are important for infection control and cleaning for health
  • Cleaning for health actions focuses on decreasing or eliminating the risk of germ survival and spread
The workshop is included with registration but you must sign up, seating is limited.
You will have the option to sign up for this Workshop during the registration process.

Post-Conference Program – separate registration required
8:30 AM - 4:30 PM
Post-Conference Workshop NORMI Full Day Certification for Mold Assessment Technician
Doug Hoffman, NORMI
This CMAT (NORMI™ Certified Mold Assessment Technician) course is designed to help the professional mold remediator work through the assessment process from creating a baseline assessment using lab sampling and moisture mapping to performing interim evaluations and developing a post-remediation verification. This class assumes that a third part assessor is not available to do the necessary pre or post sampling to objectively insure the project was done correctly.

Mold Assessors are always recommended to oversee a remediation project but, in some cases, third party professionals are unavailable. Of course this should always be a separate process but sometimes property owners are unwilling to bear the expense and, in some areas of the country, there is simply not a trained assessor near the project. In these unique circumstances, the remediator may find himself serving as the assessor, incorporating these processes into his project. When that is required, the CMAT should take special care to utilize third-party lab confirmation as part of the assessment process.

Both NORMI™ and the IICRC strongly recommend a third-party assessor on every remediation project to avoid an inherent conflict of interest, however, extreme circumstances may preclude that possibility. In those instances, a trained professional remediator should have the skills necessary to implement the assessment process. This course teaches him to do that.
